How it all started
Hi, I’m Paige 👋
I’m a wife, mother, worst-case scenario worrier, and the creator of Peace of Mind.
In 2009, I gave birth to our first daughter. What followed in the moments after could only be described as a combination of sheer joy and utter panic at the enormity of having this little human to care for, for the rest of her life.
For weeks I couldn’t sleep, not just because I was the mum of a newborn baby, but mostly because I lay there worrying about what would happen if I or my husband became sick, injured, or even died.
This was the catalyst for me to create the very first iteration of what is now Peace of Mind. A document that contained all of our essential family information and a letter to our daughter in case I wasn’t there to see her grow up.
Finally, I felt like I could breathe again!
10 months later, the first of 2 major earthquakes struck Canterbury – our house shook with every one of them, but I felt more solid than ever knowing I had done everything I could do to protect and care for my family. That feeling is what I’d like every Kiwi family to have, no matter what life throws at them!
Over the past 12 years, my little Peace of Mind document has expanded to include all of the information necessary to cope with the multitude of scenarios that everyday Kiwis face daily.
To make that happen I spent months talking to funeral directors, doctors, nurses, lawyers, and everyday Kiwis who have experienced it all: from cancer, strokes, brain damage, dementia, motor neuron disease, housefires, floods, earthquakes, car accidents, death and everything in between to ensure that this document will save your family from the pain so many others have had to endure.
I truly believe that the gift of confidence and clarity in a crisis is one of the most meaningful gifts you can give your family. Peace of Mind gives you that!
Are you the executor, power of attorney, or go-to person for an ageing relative or friend?
Don’t leave it until it’s too late to discover you don’t have the right paperwork, have no idea where the house keys are and you’re left guessing what they would have wanted. All that stress can be avoided!
You need My Peace of Mind if…
- You’ve been meaning to get your ‘affairs in order’ for years!… Only you haven’t done it yet because honestly it just seemed way too hard. (It’s not).
- You’re the person in the relationship or family that handles the finances. Would your partner or family even know where to start?
- You know you’ll be the Executor of an Estate or be the Power of Attorney for a family member or friend. Ensure their wishes are respected and save yourself so much time and stress later.
- Peace of Mind eases your worries and takes away the burden on your family, your executors, and powers of attorney by clearly laying out everything they need to know for any situation, all in one place.
What people are saying…
“I knew I needed to do this for my family but I honestly thought it would be really hard – so I kept putting it off. Once I had Peace of Mind it was so quick and easy – I literally had it done in an afternoon! After years of avoiding it, I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders” — Carolyn, Auckland
“Everyone worries about death, but there are so many other things that could devastate your family just as easily. This helped me create a plan for anything life might throw at us. I went from worried about all the ‘what if’s’ to sleeping well knowing I’d done everything I can to ease as much stress as possible for my husband and kids.” — Anita, Invercargill
“When Dad got sick, Mum didn’t even know how to pay the power bill, let alone navigate all of their investments. If he hadn’t recorded everything it would have been 10 times harder for everyone. It meant that we could spend the precious time focused on family, not paperwork.” — Sarah, Nelson
Peace of Mind is the easiest way to write down everything your family would need to know if something happened to you.
Frequently Asked Questions.
Who is this for?
Everyone! Elderly and married, young and single, de facto parents of young children, and everyone in between. You are the only one who knows what you know and can do what you do – if you were suddenly unable to fill those roles would your family know how to: Manage the household finances? Fix that leaky kitchen tap? Choose the only brand of cat food that fluffy eats? Or any of the million other things you keep in your head?
If the answer is no, you need Peace of Mind.
Is it safe to write all these things down?
Yes and No. My Peace of Mind is designed to contain all of your most important information in case you need it in an emergency. If you don’t have those details available for your family when they really need it – that will likely mean many stressful months, or even years for them trying to unravel your life and guess your wishes. That said, that same information by its very nature is also the most sensitive so must be stored securely.
Where should I store it?
We recommend you keep your Peace of Mind on a USB or other portable storage device in a locked, fireproof safe. We strongly advise against storing it on your computer, laptop or cloud storage.
Why do I need My Peace of Mind?
Short Answer: Because dealing with an emergency is stressful enough. Give your family the greatest gift of all – reducing their stress and pain at a really hard time.
Long Answer: The past few years have proved to us yet again that life is unpredictable. We never really know what’s around the corner. On top of that, we live in one of the most beautiful, but also riskiest countries on the planet in terms of natural disasters. We’ve got a high chance of any of the following happening in NZ: Floods, earthquakes, landslides, tsunamis, volcanoes, cyclones, and wildfires. In addition to those, an emergency doesn’t have to affect whole areas to hugely affect you or your family. Housefires, injuries, illnesses like cancer, strokes, heart attacks, and a thousand other events could change your and your family’s lives in a moment. When that moment happens they shouldn’t be worrying about finding account numbers or who your insurer is!

How long does it take to fill in?

Is this a legal document?
This is NOT a legal document. It does not replace your will or enduring power of attorney, which are ESSENTIAL legal documents. Think of it more as a how-to guide to help your loved ones, executors, or attorneys when you’re not able to.
Most wills or EPoA’s will tell you the ‘what’ but not the ‘how’ E.g. What should happen to my estate, who should care for my children etc, but they don’t tell you how to pay outstanding bills on your behalf, who your investments are with, where your insurance policies are and what you’re covered for, which cemetery you want to be buried in, how your children should be raised, what their favourite foods are, etc. My Peace of Mind bridges that gap to clearly explain exactly what’s relevant in your life, your wishes, and how to follow through on them in your absence.
How many people is this for?
Peace of Mind includes enough fillable PDF’s for 6 adults, 6 children and 6 pets – enough for the whole family.
