‘Black Boots and Buttonhooks’ by Phyllis Johnston

In ‘Black Boot and Buttonhooks,’ the second book of the May series, the Tarrant family move to the King Country to farm near Piopio and May is now old enough to turn the grindstone, milk the cows and ride a horse – and old enough to get caned for disobeying the teacher at her bush school.

This much loved book was original published in the 1980’s and has been out of print for over 30 years. The Phyllis Webby Trust reprinted it in 2017, and again in 2018. It is softcover, and true to the original including all the original illustations.
