    The Serious Road Trip book

    $44.99

Hardback book with 321 pages, 100 colour photos and two maps. Price includes standard packaging and postage within New Zealand.

A true story set in the early-mid 1990s. It started as an exciting OE and led to a group of Kiwi friends setting up a colourful humanitarian organisation called The Serious Road Trip, known as ” the most rock ‘n roll aid organisation” delivering food and fun to orphans in Romania and orphans, refugees and people caught up in the Bosnian and Croatian war. They even helped transport Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) into the besieged city of Sarajevo for an epic concert, which is the subject of a recent movie ” Scream for me Sarajevo”. Consequently he offered to write the foreword. This is a gripping first person account told from the perspective of Simone who was a co-founder and involved in many aspects of the group as well as  performing in therapeutic shows for all they encountered. She reflects on the many emotions and situations faced as a Kiwi in her mid-twenties travelling by red double-decker bus, colourful land-rover, combi or truck into unfamiliar situations in a changing world. The Iron Curtain was falling through countries that had been restricted through communism and the Cold War and this was not always an easy process, but Simone and her friends constantly adapt. Their upbeat Kiwi manner allowed them to respond to the unfolding circumstances with humour. They were invited on a Peace convoy to try and stop the war in Bosnia which took the group into an unexpected realm. Simone often links her relatively carefree Kiwi upbringing with the harsh situations encountered.
